Loans and Allowances

Government Student Allowances and Loans are available to all New Zealand students.

Student Allowance:

The Student Allowance is available to New Zealand student's 18 years and older and is means tested if you are under 25 years. Eligibility depends on the amount of your parents' combined incomes or on your independant situation. It is paid weekly into your bank account and does not need repaying.

Students need to meet the requirements as detailed in the Student Allowance booklet.

Student Loan Scheme:

Our students are eligible for the Government Student Loan Scheme. College students are entitled to borrow the following amounts.

Compulsory Course Fees - Total amount of Course Fee
Course Related Costs - $1,000 maximum
Living Costs - a maximum of $150 per week is available.

Processing Applications:

Information for both the allowance and loan schemes are available from the College Administrator. The College Administrator can also check documentation and authorise photocopies of birth certificates and other papers.

To make processing easy, please bring with you the following:

  • Your IRD number.
  • Bank Account Details. If you are under 17 years, you will require parent authorisation.
  • A deposit of $290.00.
  • Verification of New Zealand citizenship or permanent residence eg. Passport or Birth Certificate.
